As a former dancer I could appreciate the emphasis on alignment and correct position in the asanas that are central to Iyengar yoga, as well as the use of props to make the poses accessible for al types of bodies. Thus, my teaching focuses on alignment in the asanas to help each student find the best version of each pose within his or he own body. By engaging the core muscles with use of the breath to build to build strength and stability while developing flexibility, students can learn to move safely thru the asanas to hep protect the spine.
